In 1958, a young Minneapolis architect named Leonard S. Parker founded an architectural firm bearing his name, The Leonard Parker Associates (TLPA). In 1972, fresh out of the University of Minnesota, where Leonard had been an instructor of mine, I joined his firm. Over the next 35 years TLPA became one of the most respected architectural firms in the Twin Cities - and began to build a growing international reputation.
I served as President and CEO of The Leonard Parker Associates from 1997 to 1999. In 1999, the firm became part of the larger national Durrant Group, and I served as the Chief Executive of Parker Durrant International from 1999 to 2003. In 2004 I became Chairman of Parker Durrant International (PDI). In 2006 I took it independent again - this time as PDI Design Group Ltd.

Today PDI Design Group continues the 50-year tradition of excellence established by The Leonard Parker Associates. Along with Leonard Parker, a core group of principals and designers helped to create the legacy of TLPA. Many of them have now rejoined me at PDI, along with a growing group of younger and very talented planners and designers from all around the world. And Leonard Parker himself remains involved as Chairman of our Advisory Board.
I also realized in 2006 that, as the world changes and grows smaller, we needed a new global business model to compete successfully in the 21st century. So I created the PDI Consortium, a worldwide network of building industry specialists that collaborate under the trusted banner of PDI to bring tailored expertise and a local presence to projects around the world. We now have 60 members from 10 different countries, with 35 of them located throughout the United States.
So we stand ready to provide you - now more than ever - with the innovative and focused architecture and world-class service you have come to expect.

PDI Design Group has extremely talented designers ranging from seasoned architects who have designed such buildings as the Minneapolis Convention Center and the Humphrey Law Library, to young architects who have just begun their architectural journey, and are ready to use the latest technology and resources to give expression to the ideas and dreams of our clients worldwide. Our designs are functional and beautiful, resulting in buildings which have a sense of rhythm and balance, as well as economy and artistry. Every aspect of our designs flows together in form and function to provide a delightful space for living, working, entertaining, or just relaxing.
Architecture & Engineering
The heart and soul of what we provide. Our comprehensive architectural services include conceptual and schematic design, design development and construction documentation, assisting with contractor bidding and/or negotiating and construction contract administration. Architecture embodies all we touch. And we are a combination of artists and tacticians, imagining, coordinating and creating some of the world's most iconic places.
Planning
We combine global reach with a tremendous local touch. Our commitment to our communities allows us to effectively navigate local regulatory approval processes from platting subdivisions to zoning and permitting. We also handle issues of site analysis, access, circulation, parking, urban design, local development guidelines and placemaking. It's the entire picture. Always.
