UM Law Library & School

  • Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Size: 21,739㎡
  • Date: 1978 (Building Addition: 2001)

The University of Minnesota Law School is a prominent part of the gateway to the West Bank campus. It includes a 600,000-volume library, classrooms, clinics, offices and courtrooms designed to accommodate over a thousand students and faculty. The design consists of three "building blocks" arrayed around a central administrative/classroom core. These building blocks symbolically represent (and house) the three functions of the law: justice (courtrooms), service (legal clinics) and education (the library). The design also incorporates a pedestrian link to an existing auditorium and classroom building.
